In early 1961 the Portuguese Government commissioned Nord Aviation to build six N-2502 Noratlas, but as the production line had already closed, its reopening costed production and therefore to reduce costs, the aircraft were equipped at the General Aeronautical Material Workshops (OGMA) in Alverca, with surplus instruments and avionics of the North-American T-6 Texan, resulting in new aircraft but with electronic equipment and old-fashioned instruments.
The manufacturer designated these aircraft by N-2502F Noratlas and first arrived in Portugal in December 1961 and the rest between January and July of the following year, being registered with the numbers 6407 to 6412, and moved to Air Base No. 10 (BA10), Beira, Mozambique, where they began arriving at the end of 1962, equiping Squadron 102, integrated into Operational Group 1001.
The Air Museum holds noratlas numbers 6403, 6412, 6417 and 6420.
