Photo Remarks
On display in the Time and Navigation exhibition at the National Air and Space Museum. This specially modified Vega set the record in 1931 for the first around the world flight by a fixed-wing aircraft, taking eight days in the hands of Wiley H. Post and Harold Gatty. Post repeated the feat solo, taking only seven days in 1933. The Smithsonian acquired 'Winnie Mae' shortly after Post's death in a flying accident in 1935.
